H.R. No. 744
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Candice Johnson has distinguished herself as a
public-spirited and intelligent young woman, and her many successes
and commitment to serving others make her a role model for her
fellow Texans; and
WHEREAS, Graduating third in her class from James Madison
Senior High School in Houston in 2002, Ms. Johnson is currently
pursuing a bachelor's degree in corporate communications with a
minor in business administration at The University of Texas at
Austin; a recipient of the Mary Jones Houston Endowment
Scholarship, Longhorn Opportunity Scholarship, and College of
Communication Presidential Scholarship, she has earned honors each
semester of her college career; and
WHEREAS, This admirable Texan is also highly involved with
her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and has served in a variety of its
offices, including Ivy Academy chair and historian; she reigned as
Miss Black University of Texas for 2003-2004 and is a member of the
National Society for Collegiate Scholars, the Texas Exes Student
Chapter, the Innervisions Gospel Choir, and the African American
Culture Committee; moreover, she has served the collegiate
community as a recruiter, a Texas Angel, and as a Longhorn Scholars
mentor; and
WHEREAS, Despite her many academic and extracurricular
responsibilities, Ms. Johnson has repeatedly given of her time and
talents to help others; whether working as a counselor and mentor at
the Teen Success Leadership Camp or volunteering with the American
Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, the
Capital Area Food Bank, or the Reading is Fundamental Program, she
has made a positive difference in the lives of countless
individuals; and
WHEREAS, Candice Johnson has accomplished much in her young
life thus far, and she may reflect with pride on her achievements
and look with optimism and anticipation toward a bright and
promising future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Candice Johnson for her
outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements and extend
to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
