R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members and friends of Gilbert Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Wichita Falls are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the church's founding with a special service on March 20, 2005; and WHEREAS, The first African American Methodist congregation organized in Wichita Falls, Gilbert Memorial also holds the distinction of being the second-oldest African American church in the city; and WHEREAS, For 100 years, Gilbert Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church has been a blessing in the lives of all who have worshipped as its congregants and to those it has served throughout the community, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church on this momentous milestone in its rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby heartily congratulate Gilbert Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Wichita Falls on its centennial and extend to all involved sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
