R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Norris Starkey of Jacksonville, who passed away on February 12, 2005, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, Born in Grapeland on December 21, 1919, Mr. Starkey played football for both Lon Morris College and Stephen F. Austin University, earning bachelor's and master's degrees from the latter; and WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan enjoyed a successful and challenging career in education; a superintendent of schools in Hudson, Malakoff, Timpson, Madisonville, Sulphur Springs, and Jacksonville, he ably served the youth of the Lone Star State and earned the lasting respect and admiration of teachers and students alike; and WHEREAS, Active in his community, he was a member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs and a 32nd-degree Mason; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Norris Starkey will remember him with respect and admiration; although he will be greatly missed, his memory will long live on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Norris Starkey and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 62 years, Inez Weesner Starkey; to his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Townsend; to his daughter-in-law, Kay Starkey; to his granddaughter, Lesley Bolton; to his brothers, Gene and Billy Starkey; to his sisters, Sarah Jane Platt and Betty Nell Vance; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Norris Starkey.
