H.R. No. 762


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The town of Jacksonville lost one of its most beloved residents and admired community leaders with the death of Barbara Greig on February 24, 2005, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Born Barbara Helen Barber on February 6, 1932, this Jacksonville native was blessed with four children, Stephen, Helen, James, and Rebekah; in addition to her long and distinguished career as a respiratory therapist, she worked for many years for the Jacksonville Public Library; and WHEREAS, Since her retirement, Mrs. Greig devoted her time to a number of charitable causes, including HOPE, the Friends of the Library, the League of Women Voters, and Clean Community Systems of Jacksonville; distressed by the illiteracy rate in Cherokee County, this avid reader was instrumental in founding the Jacksonville Literacy Council and had recently rejoined the council's board of directors; she was also a member of HAPY Girls Club, the Red Hat Society, and First United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Although Barbara Greig will be greatly missed by her loved ones, she will long be remembered for her honesty, loyalty, quiet generosity, and sharp wit, as well as for her love of animals, especially her cats Chaplin and Una and her "granddog" Shadow; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barbara Greig and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, Helen Marie Keller, James Schrecengost, and Rebekah Lou Schrecengost; to her grandchildren, Kyle McMahon, Alasun Schrecengost, Shannon Schrecengost, and Logan C. Eisele; to her brother, George Gleason Barber; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara Greig.
