R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kathy Nichols received the 2004 Woman of the Year
Award from the Palacios Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding and
dedicated service to her community; and
WHEREAS, Born in Kansas City in 1951, Ms. Nichols attended
college at the University of Colorado at Boulder and completed her
degree at Kansas University; she explored the country for several
years and eventually settled in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she
distinguished herself as an election judge and as a member of the
water board and a local homeowners association; and
WHEREAS, This civic-minded woman and her husband, Nick,
"discovered" Palacios, after spending a year sailing and living on
a sailboat in the Florida Keys; embarking on a new adventure, they
bought the Main Bed and Breakfast and have since earned historical
approval for the Koerber/Pybus house and become treasured citizens
of this coastal town; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Nichols has actively contributed to the
well-being of her community by starting the Palacios Recycle
Center, serving on the city council, and co-managing the Palacios
Community Medical Center, which was named the Business of the Year
for 2004 by the chamber of commerce; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Nichols is an invaluable asset to her
community, and her tireless work in behalf of her fellow citizens is
truly inspirational; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Kathy Nichols on her receipt of the
2004 Woman of the Year Award from the Palacios Chamber of Commerce
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued achievement;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Nichols as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
