R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Craig A. Wallis was named the 2004 Man of the Year by
the Palacios Chamber of Commerce at its 2005 Annual Membership and
Awards Banquet in recognition of his many contributions to the
vitality of his hometown; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Palacios and a former star
athlete and senior class president at Palacios High School, this
dynamic Texan went on to earn a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering technology from the University of Houston; following
his graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda
Stuhrenberg, and traveled as a field engineer for Westinghouse
Electric for two years before returning to Palacios to raise his
family; and
WHEREAS, The co-owner of W&W Dock and Ice, Mr. Wallis plays a
vital role in the area shrimping industry; his leadership and
professional acumen have not only earned him the loyalty of his
employees, many of whom have worked with him for more than 25 years,
but the respect of countless Texans as well; the 1988 recipient of
the chamber's Marine Related Award, he has long advocated for the
local domestic shrimp industry as a member of the Texas Shrimp
Association board, and he was recently chosen to testify on behalf
of the state before the International Trade Commission of the
Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wallis is making a positive and lasting impact
on his community through his myriad civic involvements; a valued
member of the Palacios Economic Development Board, the Palacios
Steering Committee for Urban Development, the Pavilion Restoration
Committee, and the Knights of Columbus, he has served as president
of the Palacios Seawall Commission for 11 years and as vice
president of the Palacios Community Medical Center board; he has
coached an array of youth sports and supported the local 4-H as an
adult leader; moreover, his culinary talents are regularly enjoyed
at the Marine Advisory Fishermen's Festival and the St. Anthony's
Catholic Shrimporee; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his most recent honor, Mr. Wallis was
lauded by his high school as the PHS Outstanding Graduate in 2000
and by the Knights of Columbus as the Grand Knight in 1983; the
Knights of Columbus also named him, his wife, Linda, and their two
children, Kyle and Courtney, the organization's Family of the Year;
and
WHEREAS, Craig Wallis is an inspiration to all who are
privileged to know him, and his efforts in behalf of the city of
Palacios have truly made him deserving of this most recent award;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Craig A. Wallis on being named the
2004 Man of the Year by the Palacios Chamber of Commerce and extend
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Wallis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
