R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Harry Gee, Jr., of Houston received the 18th Annual Leon Jaworski Award from the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary on March 1, 2005, for his extraordinary service to his community; and WHEREAS, The award honors a member of the Houston Bar Association who is civic-minded, professionally capable, socially and culturally concerned, family-oriented, and morally and spiritually aware; the program seeks to inform and educate the public about the dedication of lawyers to their practice and their community; and WHEREAS, For three decades, Mr. Gee, of the law firm Harry Gee and Associates, has contributed his time to numerous civic and professional organizations; he presently serves as chair of the American Leadership Forum and as a member of the boards or advisory boards of the Greater Houston Partnership, the Institute of International Education, United Way, the blood bank, JPMorgan Chase Bank Houston, The University of Texas Health Science Center, the University of Houston Law School, the Child Abuse Prevention Council, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority; and WHEREAS, In the past, as a member of the executive board of the Super Bowl Host Committee and chair of the Community Relations Committee, Mr. Gee helped establish two youth education town centers in Houston, with a generous donation of $3.5 million by the NFL and the Super Bowl Host Committee; he has also served as the president and chair of the Friends of the Houston Public Library and helped to increase revenues from its annual book sale; for four years, he assumed the role of president of Sister Cities of Houston, Inc., an organization dedicated to the promotion of cultural, educational, and economic interests between Houston and its 16 sister cities around the world; and WHEREAS, A committed advocate of educational opportunities, Mr. Gee was elected in 1999 as chair of the Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc., and he has volunteered his time for countless schools and universities; to further support higher education, his family established a presidential scholarship in immigration law at The University of Texas; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Harry Gee enjoys the support of his wife, Antje, and their children, Andrew, Claudia, and Sonja; his unyielding dedication to his community is an inspiration to all those who are privileged to know him, and he is certainly deserving of this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Harry Gee, Jr., on his receipt of the 18th Annual Leon Jaworski Award from the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gee as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
