R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Rotary International celebrated its 100th anniversary on February 23, 2005, and this anniversary provides an opportune occasion to recognize not only the notable work of the international organization, but also the achievements of the Graham Rotary Club; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1905 by Paul Harris of Chicago, Rotary International strives to provide professionals with opportunities for service projects and fellowship; today, the organization is made up of more than 30,000 clubs throughout the world, each making significant contributions to the community it serves; and WHEREAS, On an October evening in 1925, at a turkey dinner hosted by the Ladies of the Baptist Missionary Society in the basement of the First Methodist Church, the charter for the Rotary Club of Graham was given to the 21 original members, launching a tradition of outstanding service to that community; and WHEREAS, The members of the Graham Rotary Club have long benefited the Lone Star State through their continued support of a host of worthy projects; in addition to numerous beautification projects for city parks and schools, Rotarians have also provided their leadership, time, talents, and financial support to a number of diverse endeavors for improving the quality of life, including Graham Regional Medical Center, Memorial Auditorium, Meals-on-Wheels, Graham Area Crisis Center, Child Advocacy Center, day-care centers, The Library of Graham, Crime Stoppers, and Habitat for Humanity; and WHEREAS, For more than a century, Rotarians worldwide have participated in projects that promote youth, health, literacy, peace, and understanding, and it is indeed a pleasure to join the Graham Rotary Club in celebrating its own enduring legacy of "Service Above Self"; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Rotary International on the occasion of its centennial anniversary and recognize the Graham Rotary Club for its many good works; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Graham Rotary Club as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
