R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Family Land Heritage Program of the Texas Department of Agriculture honors properties in Texas that have been owned by the same family and agriculturally productive for more than a century, and this year, the Dowe Family Ranch joins this distinguished roster of Texas properties; and WHEREAS, Located in western San Saba County, about five miles north-northwest of Hall, this historic property was purchased in 1904 by W. S. Adams and his two sons, Thomas Kelly Adams and Matt Adams; today, the 660-acre ranch, with its scenic rolling hills and prickly pear cactus, supports a commercial cattle herd as well as Spanish goats, a llama named "Cusco," several Longhorn cattle, including the inaugural cattle couple, "Chile" and "Queso," and abundant natural wildlife; and WHEREAS, The ranch has figured prominently in the lives of six generations of the Dowe family, and it remains a welcome retreat for family gatherings, including weddings, holidays, and summer celebrations; matriarch Novalene Adams Dowe, the oldest surviving member of the Dowe family, still visits the ranch regularly and takes an active role in family and ranch matters; and WHEREAS, Today, the Dowe Family Ranch is held in the name of Dowe-Adams, Inc., which is owned by Celina Dowe, Lucie Dowe, Kathleen Dowe, Dee Dee Ranyon Dowe, Frederick David Dowe, Thomas Kelly Dowe, Sr., and James W. Dowe III--all descendants of W. S. Adams; and WHEREAS, The Dowe brothers, Jim, Kelly, Fred, and Mike Dowe, spent many wonderful times with their parents, wives, children, and grandchildren on the ranch, establishing a legacy as solid as Hill Country rock, and their efforts have ensured that the ranch will remain a very special place for memorable family get-togethers for generations to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the descendants of W. S. Adams on the acceptance of the Dowe Family Ranch into the Family Land Heritage Program of the Texas Department of Agriculture; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the owners of Dowe-Adams, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
