R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Glen Edward Roney of McAllen is a highly respected community leader, businessman, and fund-raiser for the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen; and WHEREAS, The founder of Texas Regional Bancshares, Inc., and its subsidiary, Texas State Bank, Mr. Roney serves as board chairman and chief executive officer and oversees 71 banking centers in metropolitan areas throughout Texas; and WHEREAS, This esteemed professional actively supports higher education, youth development, health care, and economic and cultural development; in addition to his many statewide appointments, including to the Governor's Task Force Committee on Border Economic Development and the Texas Water Development Board, he is a founding member of the Vannie E. Cook, Jr., Cancer Foundation in McAllen and has served as a member of the boards of numerous organizations, including Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, South Texas Community College, the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, the Rio Grande Children's Home Foundation, and the Salvation Army; and WHEREAS, Mr. Roney's commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen includes fund-raising with his wife, Rita Kathryn Roney, to help keep young people engaged in positive, productive, and enjoyable activities; in October 2004, the Glen E. and Rita K. Roney Center opened in northwest McAllen, providing the city with its second site for the Boys & Girls Club, a 35,000-square-foot facility with modern amenities; and WHEREAS, Mr. Roney has received many awards for his work in behalf of his community, including the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League, the Outstanding Man of the Year Award from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, and the Cultural Leader of the Year Award from the South Texas Symphony Association; and WHEREAS, Glen Edward Roney is truly an inspiration to all those who live and work in McAllen, and he is most deserving of special recognition for his accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Glen Edward Roney for his contributions to the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Roney as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
