R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Dunbar High School girls basketball team has
ascended to the pinnacle of success in high school basketball by
winning the 2005 Class 4A state championship; and
WHEREAS, Capping a stellar 31-4 season, the Lady Wildcats
defeated a tough Angleton team 56-50 in front of 7,100 enthusiastic
fans at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin to clinch the school's
first girls state crown; and
WHEREAS, The successful fulfillment of the team's
championship dream was the result of a total commitment to
excellence by team members Dominique Bourgeois, LaShandra Hill,
LaTisha Clark, Jerin Smith, Maureen Slider, Roni Withers, Ashley
McCuin, Finals MVP Brooklyn Pope, and Victoria Davis; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Andrea Robinson ably schooled these
exceptional athletes in the finer points of the game while
instilling in them the values of hard work, dedication, and good
sportsmanship; she was supported in her endeavors by assistant
coaches Eric Robinson and Meka Gailliard; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating the talent and physical stamina of
true champions, the Lady Wildcats have earned a place in the sports
annals of Dunbar High School, and the memory of this achievement
will remain with them for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Dunbar High School girls
basketball team on winning the 2005 Class 4A state championship and
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
