R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, March 20, 2005, marks the second anniversary of the Reverend Murphy Simon's tenure as pastor of First St. Mark Baptist Church in Houston, and this occasion provides an opportune time to recognize this esteemed Texan; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of the District of Columbia and the Houston Graduate School of Theology, Reverend Simon previously officiated as a minister at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and Lilly Grove Baptist Church, both in Houston, before beginning his service to First St. Mark's; and WHEREAS, For two years, he has led that congregation with great distinction, enhancing the spiritual lives of many individuals with his guidance and inspirational teachings; moreover, since his arrival, the church has experienced a particularly vibrant and rewarding period, resulting in a renewed sense of purpose and vitality within the membership; and WHEREAS, Reverend Simon has further supported his community by working with young people as a special education inclusion facilitator and vocational and preemployment teacher at Worthing High School; in addition, he has distinguished himself as the director of an independent living program for juvenile offenders; and WHEREAS, The Reverend Murphy Simon has consistently placed the needs of others above all else, bringing his special strength and compassion to each new task he takes on; in times of trouble or of joy, he is always there to promote faith, hope, and understanding, helping others to confidently navigate that daily miracle we call life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the Reverend Murphy Simon and congratulate him on his second pastoral anniversary with First St. Mark Baptist Church; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Reverend Simon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
