R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (TEXPERS) is holding its 16th annual conference in Austin on March 19-25, 2005; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1989, this voluntary nonprofit educational organization works in behalf of public employees in Texas to strengthen public pension systems throughout the state; and WHEREAS, Composed of 111 public employee retirement systems and 130 financial professionals and other consultants who assist them, the association provides guidance and education of pension fund administrators, monitors state and federal legislation, and fosters communication among system administrators, their advisors, and government leaders; and WHEREAS, In the past five years, the organization has nearly tripled in size; currently, the association's member systems represent 127,191 active and retired participants with some $16 billion in assets; and WHEREAS, During the association's conference in Austin, its members will have an opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss a range of issues affecting these public pension funds; and WHEREAS, Public retirement systems represent a significant number of Texas workers, from police and fire officials to employees of hospital districts and university medical centers, and this association is to be commended for the vital role it plays in promoting the sound condition of these public funds; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the many individuals affiliated with the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems and extend best wishes to them for a successful annual conference; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for TEXPERS as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
