H.R. No. 858
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Cleveland High School Lady Indians basketball
team captured the 2005 3A Texas Championship Silver Medal in the UIL
state championship competition at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin,
concluding a spectacular 36–3 season; and
WHEREAS, Achieving this impressive accomplishment was the
result of a team effort by Ebony Turner, Jekerria Carter, Jennifer
Harris, Shante' Perry, Autumn Burks, Sha'Kendra Davis, Roshawn
Pillot, Chavara Hamilton, Toni Simpson, Laketra Searles, NaQuita
Williams, and Carla Edwards; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Rennie Chaney schooled these exceptional
athletes in the finer points of the game while instilling in them
the values of hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship, and she was
ably supported in her efforts by assistant coaches Shiakiea Carter
and Ken Troost; and
WHEREAS, The Lady Indians, along with their coaches and
staff, are a source of tremendous pride to the students and faculty
of Cleveland High School and their many supporters in the
community, and this noteworthy achievement indeed warrants special
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Cleveland High School Lady Indians
basketball team for winning second place in the 2005 UIL state
championship and extend to the players and coaches best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
