R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Gary Hedrick of El Paso is receiving the Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Award on April 28, 2005; and WHEREAS, Distributed by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Project Amistad, a nonprofit organization that provides services to the elderly and disabled communities of El Paso, the award honors those citizens who have displayed an extraordinary dedication to the city and its residents; and WHEREAS, Honored for his leadership of the El Paso Electric Company, which supports countless organizations in need, Mr. Hedrick is currently president and chief executive officer of this generous company; he received his postgraduate degrees from The University of Texas at El Paso and completed leadership programs for senior executives at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and WHEREAS, As CEO, Mr. Hedrick has worked to distribute donations and funding to civic organizations, schools, art institutions, and health and welfare agencies; groups that have benefited from the company's charitable programs include the Alzheimer's Association of El Paso, the American Red Cross, LULAC Project Amistad, the El Paso Museum of Art, the Hispanic Leadership Institute, the Rio Grande Agency on Aging, the United Blood Services, the El Paso Child Guidance Center, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, El Paso Lighthouse for the Blind, and United Way of El Paso; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hedrick has contributed his time and expertise as a board member of diverse groups, including the American Heart Association, Junior Achievement, United Blood Services, and Project ARRIBA, and his leadership is an integral part of the corporate and nonprofit environments of El Paso; and WHEREAS, The strength of our community and its charitable causes depend on the dedication of individuals like Gary Hedrick; as a leader, he uses his resources and generous spirit to help others, a truly noble cause that serves as an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Gary Hedrick on his receipt of the Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hedrick as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
