R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On March 23, 2005, citizens, officials,
businesspeople, and other friendly visitors from the great city of
Waco have come to their Capitol in Austin to share the great news of
their city's many virtues; and
WHEREAS, Located on the Brazos River in the heart of Texas,
Waco is the seat of McLennan County and the renowned home of Baylor
University, chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, as well as
other top-notch institutions of higher education, such as Texas
State Technical College and McLennan Community College; and
WHEREAS, Among its numerous other distinctions, Waco is the
birthplace of Dr Pepper; the site of the first single-span
suspension bridge west of the Mississippi, which served as the
prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge; Lake Waco, the largest municipal
lake in the state; the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum; the
Texas Sports Hall of Fame; the Mayborn Museum; the historic
Hippodrome Theater, and many other attractions that highlight
Waco's central location, natural beauty, and diverse charms; and
WHEREAS, Besides the many attractions that draw people to
Waco, this area proudly stands as the birthplace of Olympians, war
heroes, famous entertainers, literary figures, world-class
economists, and more Texas governors than any other city in Texas;
and
WHEREAS, The many fine qualities of Waco have, through the
years, attracted the kind of people who strongly desire to improve
the community; and
WHEREAS, The commitment to business growth, education,
economic development, and community strength in Waco by its
citizens makes the region not only the absolute Heart of Texas, but
an increasingly popular choice to live, work, visit, play, shop, or
build; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby express its gratitude for these visitors, who
serve as excellent ambassadors for the city of Waco; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That Wednesday, March 23, 2005, be declared Waco
Day at the State Capitol in Austin; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the city of Waco and the Greater Waco Chamber of
Commerce as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
Representatives.
