R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Barry
Kenneth Meza of Seguin suffered an immeasurable loss with the death
of this valiant soldier in Kuwait on December 19, 2004, at the age
of 23; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 180th Transportation Battalion at
Fort Hood, Sergeant Meza was on his third tour of the war-torn
region when he was killed; he was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery
in service to his country; and
WHEREAS, This loving son, brother, and father graduated from
Clear Creek High School, where he was a valued member of the Naval
ROTC; described by friends and relatives as kind, outgoing, and
fun-loving, Sergeant Meza cherished his family and enjoyed baseball
and hunting; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Meza embodied the
highest ideals of the U.S. Armed Forces, and those who knew and
loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Sergeant
Barry Kenneth Meza and extend profound sympathy to the members of
his family: to his sons, Richard Meza and Barry Meza, Jr.; to his
mother and stepfather, Tammy and Mark Brazle; to his sister,
Rachael Meza-Cantu, and her husband, Domingo; to his grandparents,
Vera and Julian Meza, Sr., and Helen and Roy Elliott; and to the
other relatives and many friends of this beloved young man; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
Sergeant Barry Kenneth Meza.
