R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Lauro Garcia DeLeon III of Floresville have suffered an immeasurable loss with his death on September 8, 2004, at the age of 20; and WHEREAS, Killed in the performance of his duties in Balad, Iraq, Specialist DeLeon was a member of the 644th Transportation Company and had served in Iraq for nearly eight months; and WHEREAS, This valiant young man was born in San Antonio on January 5, 1984, and joined the reserves while he was still a student at Floresville High School in order to finance his college education; after receiving his diploma in 2003, he enrolled in Palo Alto College in pursuit of a business degree, but when called for active duty, he laid aside his own plans in answer to his nation's need; and WHEREAS, Known for his deep religious convictions, Specialist DeLeon was a source of strength and inspiration to many at home and in Iraq; he drew on his faith to provide comfort to the members of his family as well as to his fellow soldiers, beside whom he stood courageously in the face of danger; and WHEREAS, Through his selfless devotion to his country, Lauro DeLeon embodied the highest ideals of honor and service, and all Americans owe a profound debt to him and his family for the enormous sacrifice that they have made; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist Lauro Garcia DeLeon III and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his mother, Grace Lopez and her husband, Jimmy; to his father, Lauro S. DeLeon, Jr., and his wife, Virginia; to his siblings, Ruben and Jo Ann Garcia, Linda Lopez, Jimmy Lopez, Jr., Nina Ruiz, Lillie Villanueva, and Carrie and Christopher DeLeon; to his grandparents, Jose C. Garcia, Aurora and Lauro S. DeLeon, Sr., and Lillie B. Lopez; to his uncles, Joe, Roger, George, and Joseph Garcia; to his aunts, Diane Santana, Alma Lenhart, and Stephanie, Monica, and Margie DeLeon; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Lauro Garcia DeLeon III.
