R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Arthur John Martin of
Plano deeply mourn his passing on March 6, 2005, at the age of 84,
and seek to still the pain of loss by remembering his strength,
courage, and love; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was born on December 22, 1920,
and bravely served his country during World War II as a pilot; a
veteran of 68 missions over Germany, he was awarded two Bronze
Stars, as well as an Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin was actively involved in the civic
affairs of Dallas and Plano and served as a valued member of both
cities' planning and zoning commissions; the chair of two Collin
County bond issues, he also distinguished himself as a member of the
Plano City Council and the boards of the Plano Symphony Orchestra
and Plano Sister Cities; and
WHEREAS, A man of diverse interests and talents, he enjoyed
oil painting, especially landscapes and World War II airplanes and
battles; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Arthur John
Martin will remember his zest for life and his love of family and
community; although he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live
on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed with his
warmth and generosity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Arthur John
Martin and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
his wife of 33 years, Jeanne Martin; to his son, Arthur "Marty"
Martin, Jr.; to his daughter, Holly Martin; to his sister, Maxine
Schuman and her husband, Allen; to his nephews, John and Richard
Schuman; to his niece, Stephanie Winter; and to his other relatives
and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Arthur
John Martin.
