H.R. No. 910


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Throughout our nation's proud and storied past, men and women of great bravery have answered the call to serve, distinguishing themselves as heroes through selfless acts of valor and courage; and WHEREAS, One such individual is Clarence Sasser of Brazoria County, who is being honored by American Legion posts at the 9th District Spring Convention on April 3, 2005; and WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan was the recipient of our nation's highest award, the Medal of Honor, in March of 1969 for his service as a medic in Vietnam with Company A, 3rd Battalion; after his company was ambushed from three sides, Mr. Sasser ran through a rice paddy in a hail of open fire to assist the injured, and despite receiving wounds in his shoulder and legs, he managed to drag himself through the mud to aid another fallen soldier; ignoring his own pain, he led a group of fellow soldiers to safety and tended to their wounds while waiting for five hours for evacuation; and WHEREAS, Since the war, Mr. Sasser has continued to benefit countless individuals as an active participant and leader in veterans' affairs; and WHEREAS, By selflessly dedicating himself to the well-being of his fellow soldiers, Clarence Sasser exemplifies the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and he is most deserving of special recognition not only now but also by future generations; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to Clarence Sasser for his service to his country and extend to him deep appreciation for his sacrifices and heroic actions; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Sasser as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
