R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sandra Reed is retiring as superintendent of the
Sharyland Independent School District on June 30, 2005, drawing to
a close an outstanding career in education; and
WHEREAS, A Chicago native, Ms. Reed earned her master's
degree at Texas A&M University and her doctorate at The University
of Texas at Austin; after teaching for nearly a decade, she worked
as an administrator in the Georgetown and Brazosport Independent
School Districts as well as for the Texas Education Agency and
Region IV Education Service Center in Houston; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reed became the Sharyland ISD superintendent in
1995; during her notable tenure, five new elementary schools and a
junior high school have been built and the district has boosted
academic achievement, earning a "recognized" rating from the Texas
Education Agency; moreover, her commitment to the strict
enforcement of the school district's Student Code of Conduct has
ensured area students safer campuses where they can remain focused
on learning; and
WHEREAS, The longest-serving superintendent in the
district's history, Ms. Reed has set and maintained high standards
for the district, earning the lasting respect of her fellow
citizens, and it is a pleasure to commend her for her exemplary
tenure as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Sandra Reed on her retirement as
superintendent of the Sharyland Independent School District and
extend to her sincere best wishes for future happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Reed as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
