R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Melissa and Oscar Martinez of Mission and their daughters, Morgan, Moriah, and Mykenzie, have earned a place in Texas Citrus Fiesta history for their involvement with that singular celebration; and WHEREAS, Initially held in 1932, the weeklong Mission extravaganza celebrates the state's thriving citrus industry with activities that include a parade with citrus-covered floats and a coronation ceremony for the royal court; judges choose the members of the royal family from contestants across the Rio Grande Valley; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez began the family's legacy of royal service in 1972, when she was six years old and named to the court as Princess Anna; her daughter, Morgan, was selected for the same honor in 1999, followed by Moriah in 2002; last year, six-year-old Mykenzie proudly carried on the family's remarkable Citrus Fiesta tradition when she was named the 2004 Princess of Lemon; and WHEREAS, The close-knit family has traveled throughout the state with each daughter to appear in parades, and the girls' royal scepters, crowns, and gowns are lovingly created by Mrs. Martinez and displayed together at the Mission City Hall; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Martinez has assisted behind the scenes with the floats and today he maintains the family's connection to this highly popular South Texas event as a member of the Texas Citrus Fiesta board of directors; and WHEREAS, Melissa and Oscar Martinez and their children demonstrate outstanding pride in their community and their state with their unwavering support of the Texas Citrus Fiesta, and it is a distinct pleasure to honor these fine Texans at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Melissa and Oscar Martinez of Mission, and their daughters, Morgan, Moriah, and Mykenzie, for their participation in the Texas Citrus Fiesta, and extend to them heartfelt best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Martinez family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
