R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ralph and Alma Wheat of New Braunfels are
celebrating their 60th anniversary on April 1, 2005, marking a
milestone in their long and happy union; and
WHEREAS, The couple met at O'Reilly General Hospital in
Springfield, Missouri, where Ralph was being treated for wounds
sustained as a soldier in World War II and Alma was completing her
nurses training; they were wed on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, in
an Army chapel in Springfield; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of the past six decades, Mr. and Mrs.
Wheat have been blessed with three children, Tom and his wife, Gail,
John and his wife, Lisa, and Judith and her husband, John; they also
take great pride in their four grandchildren and are eagerly
awaiting the arrival of their first great-grandchild in May 2005;
and
WHEREAS, The Wheats both enjoyed successful careers, he in
management with the J. C. Penney Company and she as a nurse for more
than 30 years; their 1992 retirement brought with it a move to New
Braunfels, where they are active with the local senior citizens
center and as members of their church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout their life together, Mr. and Mrs. Wheat
have made a host of close friends and traveling companions; this
jet-setting pair has journeyed to all seven continents and have
particularly treasured their trips to Rome, Alaska, Japan, and the
Holy Land; they are avid bridge players and anglers, and Mr. Wheat
takes great pleasure in tending his vegetable garden; and
WHEREAS, The enduring union of Ralph and Alma Wheat remains
an inspiration to all with whom they have shared the richness of
their lives, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize them on this
momentous occasion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ralph and Alma Wheat on their 60th
wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
continued happiness together; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Wheats as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
