R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Nita Fay Scheble Cox has established an impressive
legacy of professional and personal achievements, and she truly
deserves special recognition for her myriad contributions to the
Arlington community; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1925 in Cleburne, where her grandfather held
the post of mayor, the former Nita Scheble moved with her family to
Fort Worth in the early 1930s; valedictorian of the Class of 1942 at
Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, she received a scholarship
to attend North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, where she
graduated valedictorian with an associate of science degree; after
receiving her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at
Austin in 1946, she continued her studies at the University of
Wisconsin at Madison and earned a master's degree from Texas
Christian University in Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cox began her professional life working for the
Civil Aeronautics Administration but was soon invited to join the
speech-drama faculty at what is now The University of Texas at
Arlington (UTA); during her nearly 50-year tenure there, she
developed speech and drama classes, taught English, and directed
plays, all-college revues, and the Coronation of the King and Queen
of the Student Body; while her university career flourished, she
also served as a speech consultant to numerous businesses and
managed a murder mystery troupe that performs in clubs and at
parties; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Cox has been an active and
valued member of her community, contributing her time and talent to
a number of worthy groups, including Altrusa, Bible Study
Fellowship, the Fielder Museum, the Friends of the UTA Libraries
and Lecture Group, a women's investment club, and various art
organizations; and
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Cox has enjoyed the love
and support of her husband, B. Wayne Cox, their daughter, Leslie Cox
Recine, and the most recent additions to the family, her beloved
granddaughters, Chelsea and Chloe; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished lady has made a lasting and
positive impact on the Arlington community by enriching the
learning experience for countless young people and brightening the
lives of all who know her, and it is a pleasure to commend her at
this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Nita Fay Scheble Cox for her many
significant contributions to the community and extend to her
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Cox as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
