R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Andrew and Ila Martinez of Huntsville are celebrating a special milestone in their lives on May 27, 2005, for that date marks the joyous occasion of their golden wedding anniversary; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez met in October 1954 and were married the following spring on May 27, 1955; their enduring union has been blessed with three children, Debbie, Andrea, and Russell, and they have also shared in the joy of welcoming a beloved granddaughter, Angela, into their close-knit family; and WHEREAS, Valued members of the Huntsville community for much of their marriage, Mr. Martinez owned his own business, Martinez Tire and Supply, served on the Huntsville City Council in the early 1970s, and later became active in the insurance industry, while Mrs. Martinez worked in the family restaurant and nurtured the children throughout their younger years; and WHEREAS, Together, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez have played an active role in Republican politics since 1988; Mr. Martinez served the party as Republican county chair from 1996 to 2000, and Mrs. Martinez has served as an officer at every level of the Walker County Republican Women's Club, including as the group's president from 1998 to 2000; and WHEREAS, Congregants of Second Baptist Church, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez continue to serve their community in a variety of ways; Mr. Martinez, an ordained Baptist minister, has remained active in the Shriners and the Lions Club and is a trustee of the Gulf Coast Trades Center and a member of the Trinity River Authority; Mrs. Martinez belongs to a local chapter of the Red Hat Society and volunteers for the HEARTS Veterans Museum; and WHEREAS, For half a century, Andrew and Ila Martinez have provided a good life for their family, given back to the community, and cherished their bond of love, and it is a privilege to honor them for all that they have accomplished during their years of marriage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Andrew and Ila Martinez on the memorable occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
