R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Pharmacist Steve K. Balas, owner of Eagle Lake 
United Drugs, received the 2004 Michael L. Houston Award presented 
by United Drugs at the company's annual membership meeting and 
technology conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada; and
	WHEREAS, Created in 2001 to honor the CEO of United Drugs, the 
award is given to a member pharmacist who contributes to the 
betterment of the cooperative, the pharmacological profession, and 
the pharmacist's community; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Balas, who has owned his business since 1984, is 
widely admired for the personal attention he shows his customers, 
whether he's delivering a prescription to a patient's home or 
checking on a neighbor's health; and
	WHEREAS, He further demonstrates a noteworthy commitment to 
his fellow Texans through volunteering with his church, on advisory 
boards and commerce organizations, and as a member of rice 
producer/agricultural coalitions; and
	WHEREAS, Also a member of the United Drugs Texas State 
Council, he works in behalf of independent pharmacies by lobbying 
in Austin and Washington, D.C.; and
	WHEREAS, Steve Balas has earned the trust and respect of  his 
customers and his colleagues, and his exceptional efforts in behalf 
of his profession and his community are an inspiration to all who 
know him; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Steve K. Balas on his receipt of 
the 2004 Michael L. Houston Award from United Drugs and extend to 
him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Balas as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
