R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Letty Martinez was named president of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce in October 2004, and this well-deserved promotion is the result of nearly 20 years of dedicated service to Hidalgo County and its business community; and WHEREAS, Raised in Monte Alto, Ms. Martinez began her career with the chamber in 1988 as an office clerk; drawing on life lessons learned from her grandmother, she eventually held every position within the organization, including secretary to the assistant manager, office manager, and director of membership; and WHEREAS, In the early years of her tenure, Ms. Martinez actively sought information about the chamber, while simultaneously working to overcome her own shyness, in order to seize opportunities and learn more about Edinburg's business network; her transformation from reserved aide to strong leader has allowed her to assume the responsibilities of president of the 570-member chamber; and WHEREAS, Today Ms. Martinez serves on the executive board, makes recommendations to the board of directors, interacts with the press, organizes events, and oversees a full-time staff; she promotes the organization as the voice of Edinburg's business community and fosters its impeccable reputation as a valuable referral service; and WHEREAS, This dynamic woman also leads tours of the chamber's office, a former depot for the Southern Pacific Railroad, and educates the public about its unique history; she regularly meets with city representatives and administrators from The University of Texas-Pan American and the Edinburg Economic Development Council to cooperate on city improvements; and WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted and loving family, Letty Martinez is supported in her endeavors by her husband, Joe, and their sons, J. J., Jeremy, and Jacob; her service and influence extend far beyond Hidalgo County's business community, and she has indeed established herself as one of Edinburg's most esteemed citizens; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized Letty Martinez by passing this resolution in her behalf during the Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Letty Martinez on her appointment as president of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and commend her for her outstanding career achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
