R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Marine Reserves
Corporal Zachary Alan Kolda of Corpus Christi and Austin are
mourning the tragic death of this beloved young man who was killed
in Iraq on December 1, 2004, at the age of 23; and
WHEREAS, A member of Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd
Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Corporal Kolda died as a
result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Kolda was a 2000 graduate of Richard King
High School in Corpus Christi who majored in international business
at The University of Texas at Austin before his deployment; he
appreciated and enjoyed other cultures and spent a year of his high
school education studying in Germany; and
WHEREAS, Notwithstanding the dangers that he faced and the
intensity of war that only those engaged in it can fully know, this
brave Texan remained courageously steadfast in his commitment to
his mission and to his fellow soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
women whose love for their country inspires them to volunteer for
military service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man
is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Zachary Kolda embodied
the highest ideals of the U.S. Armed Forces, and those who knew and
cherished him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Zachary Alan
Kolda and extend profound sympathy to his family: to his beloved
wife, Arleen Rene Kolda; to his parents, Patrick Kolda and Paula
Smith Kolda; to his brother, Ian Kolda; to his surviving
grandparents, Frank and Martha Kolda; and to his extended Smith,
Kolda, and Canales families and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S.
Marine Reserves Corporal Zachary Alan Kolda.
