R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 2005 National D.A.R.E. Officers Training Conference is being held August 8-13 at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, A collaborative effort between law enforcement, schools, parents, teachers, and community leaders, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) has endeavored to keep adolescents drug-free since 1983; and WHEREAS, The program establishes important relationships between students and local law enforcement, who serve as positive role models and use a structured curriculum to give youngsters vital methods of resisting peer pressure that may lead to involvement with illegal drugs; and WHEREAS, Utilizing active learning, D.A.R.E. helps to teach self-confidence, and young men and women who complete the course are proven to gain good decision-making skills, view drug use as unacceptable, and possess a decreased likelihood of ever abusing illegal substances; and WHEREAS, The fortunate students who participate in this outstanding program face a future bright with possibility, and it is a pleasure to honor the officers responsible for this invaluable achievement as they become better equipped to serve our nation's youth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the 2005 National D.A.R.E. Officers Training Conference and extend to all those involved with this important event sincere best wishes for a productive and rewarding conference.
