R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., are joining together on April 11, 2005, in Austin for Red and White Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority traces its origins back to 1913, when 22 undergraduate women attending Howard University came together for a shared dual purpose: to promote scholastic achievement and to help needy members of the local community; and WHEREAS, Today, the mission of these founding members lives on; with more than 900 chapters and 200,000 members internationally, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority plays a vital role in providing a united voice on a number of significant issues affecting the welfare of people the world over; and WHEREAS, Working to improve the lives of those less fortunate, members of this dynamic organization strive to promote educational and economic development, physical and mental health, and political and international awareness and involvement, both in their local communities and on a global scale; and WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority stands at the forefront of Texas' community service organizations, and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to recognize this outstanding group for its exceptional work in behalf of others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize April 11, 2005, as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Red and White Day at the State Capitol and extend to its members present on this day sincere best wishes for a productive and memorable visit.
