R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Gabriel Fain of Little Elm has received the 2004 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award from the Texas Council for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities for his exceptional contributions to teaching, curriculum development, and extracurricular programs; and WHEREAS, A member of the faculty of Clark High School in Plano since 1997, Mr. Fain is chair of the social studies department and teaches gifted and talented humanities courses for 9th and 10th graders, AP world history, and additional English and history classes; he received his bachelor's degree in historical studies from The University of Texas at Dallas and his graduate certification in gifted education from the University of North Texas; he is currently completing his master's degree in modern European history; and WHEREAS, No stranger to awards, this esteemed educator was elected Clark Teacher of the Year in 2002-2003 and was selected to participate in a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Study in Japan in 2002; in addition to serving on several school and district committees, he is a national AP world history reader and an AP consultant; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fain's teaching philosophy emphasizes balance and the recognition that not all students learn or progress at the same rate; he shuns focusing on broad goals and favors each student's specific needs; above all, he strives to instill in his students a deep commitment to learning and encourages them to take risks and be creative; his fortunate students repeatedly cite his ability to foster their interest in different areas of the humanities and to make history and art both relevant and exciting; and WHEREAS, A true role model for young people, Gabe Fain has distinguished himself as a dedicated, exemplary teacher; in a short period of time, he has become a much-treasured member of the faculty of Clark High School, and he is admired by students and teachers alike, who marvel at his ability to motivate teenagers to open their minds and embrace differences; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Gabe Fain on his receipt of the 2004 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award and commend him for his excellent educational accomplishments and his commitment to his students; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Fain as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
