R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Allan K. Bird has given more than 20 years of sterling service to the Plano ISD School Board, including seven years as president, and he is being honored for his service in behalf of area schoolchildren with the dedication of the Dr. Allan Bird Education Center on March 28, 2005; and WHEREAS, Currently a professor of speech pathology at Texas Woman's University, Dr. Bird is an esteemed educator who was recently recognized by his peers when he was named the recipient of the prestigious Hall of Fame Award at the 10th Annual Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association Foundation Awards Dinner; and WHEREAS, Now in his seventh term as a Plano ISD trustee, Dr. Bird has benefited the district's bond and curriculum committees and its Center for Slow Learners; in addition, his civic involvement extends to the board of the South Collin County Infant Program, CASA, the Plano Civic Choir, Vision 2000, and the Plano Area DART Committee; and WHEREAS, For a man who has dedicated so much of his life to providing young people with a quality education, it is most appropriate that the building bearing his name should house such notable educational endeavors as the Special Programs Center, offices and meeting facilities for Practical Parent Education, the Family Resource Library, and the Even Start and Expectant Parent Programs; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Dr. Allan Bird Education Center and commend Dr. Bird for his myriad contributions to learning in the Lone Star State; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Bird as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
