R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Amina El-Ashmawy was named Outstanding Professor of
the Year by Collin County Community College, where she is a
professor of chemistry; and
WHEREAS, Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Amina El-Ashmawy arrived
in Dallas with her family when she was still in elementary school;
after earning her associate's degree in science from Kilgore
College and her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Texas A&M
University, she received a master's degree in physical chemistry;
she has taught at Collin County since 1988 and was previously
recognized as the college's Outstanding Professor in Math and
Natural Science for 1998-1999; despite teaching full time, she is
currently also pursuing her doctorate in chemistry education at the
University of North Texas; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed educator serves on the CCCCD Faculty
Senate, previously acting as president and vice president; she has
further distinguished herself as a member of various American
Chemical Society (ACS) general chemistry exam committees, the ACS
Division of Chemical Education, and the Association of Chemistry
Teachers of Texas; she has authored a solution manual and several
web companion sites for major textbooks and serves as the faculty
sponsor for the CCCCD Muslim Student Association; and
WHEREAS, With a love of nature and the outdoors, Ms.
El-Ashmawy spends her free time traveling and cherishing moments
spent with her husband, Ahmed, and their two daughters, Mariam and
Laila; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional teacher, Amina El-Ashmawy leads by
example, challenging her students to live up to their full
potential and encouraging young people to prepare for the future;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Amina El-Ashmawy on being named
Outstanding Professor of the Year by Collin County Community
College and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success
and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. El-Ashmawy as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
