R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week is being observed from April
17 to 23, 2005, and this annual occurrence provides a fitting
opportunity to recognize the volunteers of the Waco Center for
Youth who have given generously of their time and talents to benefit
the residents of the center; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1979 as the Texas Department of
Mental Health and Mental Retardation's first residential
psychiatric treatment facility for emotionally disturbed children
and adolescents, the Waco Center for Youth affirms that each young
Texan deserves a chance for change; the center strives to provide
long-term treatment of the highest caliber that will give
individuals the skills necessary to become productive members of
society; and
WHEREAS, Much of the center's success depends on its
volunteer workforce; each year, more than 300 dedicated men and
women and nearly 50 volunteer organizations freely offer their
services to the center; and
WHEREAS, By supporting the important work of the Waco Center
for Youth, each of the volunteers has not only demonstrated a deep
commitment to the community but also has helped to ensure that the
center's residents acquire opportunities they need to bring about
positive change in their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the volunteers of the Waco Center for
Youth and commend them for their exceptional service; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the center's volunteers as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
