R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, James Bowie Elementary School in the Pharr-San 
Juan-Alamo Independent School District has been awarded 
"exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency for its overall 
excellence in academic achievement; to attain the "exemplary" 
ranking, Bowie was required to meet demanding standards regarding 
attendance and dropout rates, and at least 90 percent of its 
students had to pass each section of the Texas Assessment of 
Knowledge and Skills Test; and
	WHEREAS, This stellar campus is also featured as a High 
Performing School on the National Just for the Kids website; it is 
one of only 15 schools statewide and one of only four in South Texas 
to merit inclusion on that list, which highlights schools that 
exemplify best practices and that can serve as a model for other 
schools seeking to improve student achievement; and
	WHEREAS, The students and faculty of James Bowie Elementary 
School have performed admirably in their pursuit of academic 
excellence, and their notable accomplishments are a source of great 
pride to the community; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate the students and faculty of James 
Bowie Elementary School on their school's "exemplary" designation 
and selection as a High Performing School by the National Just for 
the Kids website; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
