R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life filled with many joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may temper the profound sadness felt by the friends and family of James B. Settle of Littlefield at his passing on June 25, 2004; and WHEREAS, Born on July 15, 1918, in Cleburne, to James and Mary Settle, Jimmie Settle was a retired teacher and school administrator; he held a bachelor's degree in zoology from The University of Texas and a master's degree in music education from the University of North Texas and also served in the United States Army during World War II, working at the Pentagon and Wright Field; and WHEREAS, Before moving to Littlefield in 1967, this respected educator had already distinguished himself as a teacher, band director, principal, and superintendent for the Baird, Henrietta, Bryson, Spur, and Amherst school systems; in 1979, he retired from the Littlefield public schools, where he had served as a school principal, superintendent, and assistant superintendent; and WHEREAS, Mr. Settle was a dedicated member of numerous organizations, including the Texas Principal's Association, Littlefield Lodge No. 1611, the Littlefield Lions Club, the Salvation Army, the Littlefield Chamber of Commerce, and Littlefield First United Methodist Church; in 1994, this valued resident was named the Citizen Thru the Years by the Littlefield Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Jimmie Settle was an affable, much-loved member of his community, and he benefited countless students with his encouragement and generosity; a friend to many, he is dearly missed by all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James B. Settle and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 64 years, Edith; to his son, Lewis; to his daughter, Koma Sue; to his grandchildren, Michael, Chris, and Amanda; to his three great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James B. Settle.
