H.R. No. 1010
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Richard Nolen of Terrell
sustained injuries in combat, and this brave and dedicated soldier
is most deserving of our highest praise for risking his life in
service to his country; and
WHEREAS, While working to keep the peace in Iraq, Lance
Corporal Nolen, team leader in Company K, was hit by fragments from
an improvised explosive device, narrowly escaping with his life;
the heroic efforts of this courageous soldier earned him a Purple
Heart, bestowed on only those members of the U.S. military who are
wounded or killed by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy;
and
WHEREAS, The son of Kennedy Elementary School principal Judy
Mackey, this courageous young man is expected to return home this
spring, which will bring great joy to his family and his new bride,
Jennifer Nolen; and
WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
this country, Lance Corporal Nolen has embodied the highest ideals
of the armed forces and earned the lasting respect and gratitude of
all Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Richard Nolen
for his brave and steadfast service in this nation's behalf and
extend to him sincere best wishes for a swift and full recovery;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Lance Corporal Nolen as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
