H.R. No. 1014


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John Heard, a resident of San Antonio and a student of Saint Mary's Hall, has been named a top youth volunteer for Texas in the 10th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, these awards honor a middle school and high school youth from each state for outstanding volunteer efforts; this year, more than 20,000 students nationwide were considered for these awards, and honorees received a bronze medallion at a local ceremony; and WHEREAS, Mr. Heard rebuilt 16 donated computers and then distributed them to community groups that could make them available to low-income people; he raised funds for the project, recruited and trained 10 volunteers, and coordinated with groups that benefited from the project; and WHEREAS, The future of the State of Texas, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, on the dedication of young people who, like Mr. Heard, use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate John Heard for being named a top youth volunteer in Texas for 2005 in the 10th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Heard as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
