R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Colonel Clayborne Edwin
Kruckemeyer on January 20, 2005, at the age of 76, the world has
lost an accomplished military man, a devoted husband and father,
and a vital and valued member of his community, and we join his
family and friends in mourning their loss; and
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Clay Kruckemeyer dedicated
his professional life to the service of his country, beginning with
his work as a small arms technician in the U.S. Infantry in 1947 and
culminating with the receipt of his commission as a colonel in the
U.S. Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, he
served in 9 different commands and 14 foreign countries, in
positions including B-29 tail gunner, flight chief, first sergeant,
adjutant, squadron commander, group commander, base commander,
command operations and plans officer, and in labor negotiations
management; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of 14 awards for meritorious service,
Colonel Kruckemeyer was held in high esteem by his military
colleagues, as evidenced by the 149th Fighter Group's establishment
of the Clayborne E. Kruckemeyer Award, bestowed annually on the
member of the unit who demonstrates the greatest administrative
aptitude; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Mason since 1994, Colonel Kruckemeyer
was well known in his adopted hometown, serving on the Mason
Planning and Zoning Commission and as president of the Chamber of
Commerce, in addition to supervising the restoration of the
Kothmann Community School and chairing the Young at Heart
fundraiser for six years; and
WHEREAS, He was also a welcome presence at First United
Methodist Church, where he served as head usher, member of the
Worship Committee, and chairman of the Administrative Board; and
WHEREAS, His passing is cause for deep sadness, but Colonel
Kruckemeyer's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all
who knew him, and it is indeed fitting to remember and honor him for
his exceptional accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Colonel Clayborne
Edwin Kruckemeyer and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife of 52 years, Rose Mary Kruckemeyer; to his
children and their spouses, David Clay and Renea Kruckemeyer,
Jeffrey Clay and Dawn McCurdy; Cheryl Ann and Brad Glass; and Kathy
Jean and Bill Potter; to his grandchildren, Kimberly Brantly,
Dustin McCurdy, Robin Rene Parker, Chelsea Dawn Parker, Matthew
Kyle Potter, and Daniel Scott Potter; to his great-grandchildren,
Sierra and Cheyenne Brantly and Caden McCurdy; and to his other
family members and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Colonel
Clayborne Edwin Kruckemeyer.
