R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Servando Villarreal on February
28, 2005, as vice president of student development at Texas State
Technical College (TSTC) in Harlingen, has concluded an exceptional
career dedicated to educational excellence and the success and
well-being of TSTC students; and
WHEREAS, An alumnus of Texas A&I University in Kingsville,
Mr. Villarreal earned his bachelor's degree in 1966 and taught high
school math and physics at Brownsville High School; three years
later, he completed his master's degree in secondary school
administration and academic counseling, and became the first
vocational director-counselor at the school; and
WHEREAS, "Mr. V," as he is affectionately called by students
and colleagues alike, began his impressive career with TSTC in 1972
as a vocational counselor before becoming director of admissions
and records, manager of student services, and dean of student
services, and since September 2002, he has held the title of vice
president of student development; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of the last 26 years as head of the
college's student services division, Mr. Villarreal has earned the
respect and admiration of many individuals as he supervised
admissions and records, financial assistance, student activities,
college information, student support services, counseling
services, and intramural sports; and
WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the National Guard, Mr.
Villarreal retired from military service in 1999 with the rank of
major, after serving his country with honor for more than two
decades; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Servando Villarreal has
served the students of Texas State Technical College with integrity
and genuine concern for their welfare, and it is a pleasure to honor
him as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in his life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Servando Villarreal for his many years
of dedication to the education of Texas students and extend to him
best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Villarreal as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
