R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Arthur Ortiz, Jr., of El Paso, who passed away on May 13, 2004, at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Cathedral High School, Mr. Ortiz attended the Texas College of Mines and served his country during World War II with the Army Air Corps, training pilots in Waco; and WHEREAS, He was a partner in Arthur Ortiz & Sons Farms; a former president of the Western Cotton Shippers Association, board member of the Canutillo Independent School District, and a member of the Save the Upper Valley Committee, he also gave of his time and talents to REACT, a CB radio emergency channel response system, hosted foreign military families visiting El Paso, and volunteered with the Lighthouse for the Blind, reading books in Spanish to the visually impaired; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ortiz drew great sustenance and strength from his faith; a founding parishioner of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, he served the body as a CCD teacher, lector, parish council member, and treasurer; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Arthur Ortiz will remember his love for his family and community; although he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Arthur Ortiz, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Odette Thomas, Letty Carrasco, Maureen Keton, Maggie Sullivan, and Curley, Bob, and John Ortiz; to his 14 grandchildren; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Arthur Ortiz, Jr.
