R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. A. Louis Patterson, Jr., pastor of Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Houston for 35 years, is most deserving of special commendation; and WHEREAS, Since answering the call from Mount Corinth in 1970, Dr. Patterson has worked diligently in behalf of his parishioners, creating a five-point priority program titled The Worth of the Word, Energetic Evangelism, Sharing Our Substance, Lordship of Christ in Living, and Persistence in Prayer; and WHEREAS, Beloved by his congregation, Dr. Patterson is also recognized internationally as a leading expository preacher, and he has conducted revivals for people in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean; moreover, he has twice served as general host for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education and has lectured for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade, Promise Keepers, the Urban Alternative, and the American Baptist College and for a host of events, including national and state Baptist conventions and dozens of citywide revivals; and WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman generously shares his unwavering faith through myriad avenues; he has led churches in California and Texas, authored books including Prerequisites for a Good Journey, Joy for the Journey, and Wisdom in Strange Places, and written for Judson Press and The African American Pulpit, a quarterly journal; and WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson has received many well-deserved accolades for his life's work, including being named One of America's Greatest Black Preachers by Ebony Magazine in 1993; among additional honors, he was inducted into the Morehouse School of Religion's Hall of Preachers and has three times been named a Living Legend by his peers; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his treasured family, including his wife, Melba Lorraine, and children, Anthony, Albert, Alan, and Alette; and WHEREAS, His abiding concern for the spiritual well-being of others, his compassion, and his trust in a higher power have set an inspiring example of Christian dedication for the members of his church and beyond, and it is a privilege to join in congratulating Dr. Patterson at this special time in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. A. Louis Patterson, Jr., on the joyous occasion of his 35th anniversary as pastor of Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and extend to him best wishes for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Patterson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
