R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauer of Pilot Point have enjoyed notable success with two of their stallions, which have topped the Texas Thoroughbred Association's 2004 list of leading Thoroughbred sires in Texas; and WHEREAS, Magic Cat, the leading freshman sire, and Gold Regent, the leading second-crop sire, have produced offspring that have earned an extraordinary total of nearly $1 million in competition awards; and WHEREAS, The Scharbauers have raised these fine steeds at Valor Farm, a nearly 400-acre facility where, for decades, the couple have nurtured a love of horse breeding and racing; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Scharbauer's father, Fred Turner, Jr., first inspired the family's interest when he won the Kentucky Derby in 1959; his daughter carried on the tradition, racing Alysheba, a hall of fame race horse who at the time of his retirement was the leading money earner in the history of the sport; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sharbauer is a former president of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of that breed's hall of fame; and WHEREAS, Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauer can be justly proud of the outstanding record they have compiled with these exceptional stallions, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauer on producing two of the leading Texas stallions of 2004 and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Scharbauer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
