R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Ryan L. Crunk of
Kerrville has deservedly received the Purple Heart for heroic
actions and injuries sustained in service to our country in Iraq;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1782 during the Revolutionary War,
the Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president of the
United States to members of the armed forces who are wounded in
conflict with an enemy force or while held by an enemy force as a
prisoner of war; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Crunk, a paratrooper with the 325th
Airborne Infantry Regiment, received the Purple Heart on March 17,
2005, at Brooke Army Medical Center for injuries suffered from a
grenade blast in Mosul, Iraq, on January 30; and
WHEREAS, He was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal for
meritorious service in support of ground combat operations against
anti-Iraqi forces while assigned as a rifleman, in addition to a new
unit coin with a white falcon emblem replacing the coin that was
lost on the day of his injury; and
WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
this country, Specialist Crunk embodies the highest ideals of the
armed forces and deserves the lasting respect and gratitude of all
Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor U.S. Army Specialist Ryan L. Crunk on his
receipt of the Purple Heart in recognition of his brave and
steadfast service in this nation's behalf; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Specialist Crunk as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
