R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, William L Peek, Jr., of Texarkana, retired district
judge of the 202nd Judicial District, passed away on March 21, 2005,
at the age of 76, leaving a void in the lives of his family, friends,
and fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, Born on January 27, 1929, in Texarkana, Arkansas,
Bill Peek attended Arkansas High School, where he played football
and was an assistant editor of the school newspaper; the U.S. Army
veteran earned an associate's degree in pre-law from Texarkana
College and went on to study at Baylor University; and
WHEREAS, Judge Peek and his wife, Joy, were married in 1951
and shared more than five decades of happiness together; their
union was blessed with three children, Michael, Michele, and
Marcie, and through the years their close-knit family has grown to
include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Recognized by all who knew him for his high moral
character and his great humility, Judge Peek was an active member of
First Baptist Church of Texarkana, where he taught a Sunday school
class for young couples and formerly served as a deacon; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Bill Peek was a model of
integrity and honor, inspiring friends and colleagues alike with
his compassion and equanimity, and his legacy of success as a family
man, attorney, jurist, and man of faith will live on for years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable William
L Peek, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Joy Peek; to his son and daughter-in-law,
Michael and Terri Peek; to his daughters and son-in-law, Michele
Peek and Marcie and Mark Hlavinka; to his sister, Geraldine
Phillips; to his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
to the many other relatives and friends of this esteemed gentleman;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge
William L Peek, Jr.
