R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
welcome the World Relay of the Women's Global Charter for Humanity
to the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, Organizers of the World March of Women joined
together in Kigali, Rwanda, on December 10, 2004, to adopt the
Women's Global Charter for Humanity, a proposal that seeks to build
a world where exploitation, oppression, intolerance, and exclusion
no longer exist, and where integrity, diversity, and the rights and
freedoms of all are respected; and
WHEREAS, Beginning on March 8, 2005, an event known as the
World Relay is passing the charter through more than 50 countries,
with the final stop occurring in Africa on October 17, 2005; the
march arrives in the El Paso area on April 27, 2005, providing an
opportunity for local residents to learn more about this
outstanding initiative; and
WHEREAS, The Rio Bravo Healthy Communities Council, which
seeks to empower, create, and nurture programs that raise the
quality of life for residents living in the binational border
region, is supporting this noble effort in Texas; and
WHEREAS, It is truly a pleasure to honor all those who have
lent their time and talents to furthering the cause of equality,
freedom, solidarity, justice, and peace through this important
project; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize April 27, 2005, as Women's Global
Charter for Humanity Day and extend to all participants best wishes
for a successful event.
