R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of the Burges High School Stampede and
Hoofbeats staffs have earned Silver Crown Awards for their
publications from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association
(CSPA); and
WHEREAS, An international student press association, CSPA
serves to unite young journalists through educational conferences,
idea exchanges, and competitions; the Crown Awards are bestowed on
scholastic publications that have outstanding writing and editing,
design, concept, photography, art, and graphics; and
WHEREAS, Taking two of the 64 Silver Crowns awarded in 2005,
Stampede, the school's newspaper, and Hoofbeats, its yearbook, were
the only student publications in El Paso to be honored with the
prestigious accolades; moreover, Burges High School was one of only
two schools in Texas to have its publications earn a Silver Crown
Award in more than one category; and
WHEREAS, The staff and faculty advisors of Stampede and
Hoofbeats make an impressive contribution to their school, and they
are most deserving of special recognition for their notable
achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate all associated with the Burges High
School Stampede newspaper and the Hoofbeats yearbook on being
awarded Silver Crown Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press
Association and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
