H.R. No. 1110
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lyn Sockwell of Midland was deservedly named the
2004 Safety Person of the Year by the Association of Energy Service
Companies; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award annually recognizes one
individual whose efforts toward workplace safety not only benefit
his or her own employer and fellow employees, but also help others
to better comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration
industry guidelines; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sockwell currently serves as director of safety
for the Midland-based Basic Energy Services; an invaluable asset to
the corporation, he coordinates the company's health and safety
program for its operations throughout the lower 48 states;
responding to the challenge of the business's rapid growth in the
past few years, he now works to ensure the well-being of the
company's 2,600 employees; and
WHEREAS, While his tenure with Basic Energy began in 2000,
Mr. Sockwell discovered his interest in promoting workplace safety
while traveling the Rocky Mountains and inspecting oil rigs as a
financial analyst with Pool Companies in the late 1980s; and
WHEREAS, Essential to this state's continued economic
vitality, the oil and gas industry in Texas is dedicated to
maintaining the highest standards of health and safety among its
employees, and professionals like Lyn Sockwell who help to ensure
the security of their fellow Texans indeed merit special
recognition for their efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lyn Sockwell on being named the
2004 Safety Person of the Year by the Association of Energy Service
Companies and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Sockwell as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
