R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. H. M. Burgess on March 29, 2005, at the age of 82, has brought a profound loss to the Denton County community that he faithfully served for so many years; and WHEREAS, Born on January 3, 1923, in Montreal, Quebec, Dr. Burgess attended college and went on to serve as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy; and WHEREAS, After his naval service, he earned a fellowship with the prestigious Mayo Clinic, where he was trained in surgery; he and his wife, Norma, were married for more than five decades and were blessed with three children and eight cherished grandchildren; and WHEREAS, This esteemed physician first arrived in Denton County in 1951, lured by the gracious and welcoming nature of area residents, or by a mouth-watering steak-and-egg breakfast, as he liked to say; and WHEREAS, Dr. Burgess brought the first surgical practice to the community and established the much-needed Medical Center of Lewisville and Presbyterian Hospital of Denton; deeply committed to the public health and welfare of his neighbors, he provided expert medical services for generations of Denton County citizens; and WHEREAS, Those who had the privilege of knowing Tim Burgess will never forget the gentleness, compassion, and calm professionalism that this talented surgeon brought to every facet of his life; although his presence is gone from us now, his work will endure for years to come, and his memory will live on in the hearts of the countless Texans whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the life of Dr. H. M. Burgess and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons, Michael Burgess and his wife, Laura, and Richard Burgess and his wife, Reba; to his daughter, Terry Widmer and her husband, Robert; to his grandchildren, Nick, Meredith, Christine, Jessica, and Michael Burgess and Jay, Jocelyn, and Jimmy Widmer; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. H.
