R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of many joyful moments and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Barnie Ray Jones of Odessa, who passed away on November 29, 2004, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Born on May 27, 1926, in Big Spring, Mr. Jones moved to Odessa in 1942 and worked in the oil fields until he co-founded Jones Bros Dirt & Paving Contractors, Inc., in 1952; he served as area chair of the West Texas Association of General Contractors of America, state director of Associated General Contractors, and director of three area banks and of the Sandhills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show; and WHEREAS, An active community leader, this esteemed gentleman was an avid supporter of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Odessa College; no stranger to accolades, he was named the Small Business Person of the Year by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and Boss of the Year by the American Business Women's Association; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a member of Temple Baptist Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, ranching, and spending time with his friends, who appreciated his loyalty and generous spirit; and WHEREAS, Barnie Ray Jones was an active and respected member of his community, and he is deeply missed by all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barnie Ray Jones and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, LaCretia; to his sons, Rex Chitty, Justin Jones, Kirk Chitty, and Kyle Chitty; to his daughter, Tammie Jones; to his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; to his brothers, Troy and Earl Jones; to his nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barnie Ray Jones.
